My dad was diagnosed with Leukemia when I was in 3rd grade and died 3 days before Christmas when I was in 10th grade.

Times were bad to say the least, I remember taking our floor fan, among other things, down to the local pawn shop on multiple occasions just to get enough money to eat.

Not to mention all the hand me down clothes too.

I took my first paying job after 8th grade at the corner mom and pop grocery store at 90 cents an hour, just to pay my own way through school and for my social life.

I know this may sound rotten to you, see thinking back, I believe that all these struggles when I was a child led me to wanting the good life and all the enjoyment that brings.
